MEMBERS participate in activities at local, state, and national association levels that include the annual conferences organized by both FSMTA and MTNA. Teachers can update teaching skills, continue professional development, and qualify for state and national teacher certification through the programs, workshops, lectures, and master classes organized by the local, state, and national associations. Both teachers and parents can hear and follow a student's progress through participation in SPMTA's monthly student recitals, music festivals, and yearly non-competitive Student Day evaluation.

STUDENTS directly benefit from a solid musical foundation that may lead to upper-level music studies and the incentives and goals inherent in SPMTA's non-competitive and competitive events. Under the guidance of a qualified music teacher, a student's musical development is nurtured while the student becomes proficient in a broad spectrum of learning skills, such as multi-tasking, organization, self-discipline, individual problem-solving, thought-processing, physical and mental coordination, and preparation for public presentation. Such skills are acquired as the teacher transmits a musical heritage, leads the student into the musical world of emotion and intellect, and shares the lifelong enjoyment that accompanies music and music performance.
